Idaho Winter Engagement Photoshoot Tips | LGBTQIA+

Winter engagement photos can be absolutely magical. The snow-covered landscapes and the crisp, chilly air create a truly enchanting atmosphere that is perfect for capturing the love and excitement of a couple’s engagement. As an Idaho wedding photographer, I’ve had the opportunity to shoot many winter engagement sessions, and I’ve learned that there are a few key things that can make the experience even more special for the couple and for me as the photographer.

Choose the Right Location

First and foremost, it’s important to choose the right location for your winter engagement photos. Idaho has many beautiful outdoor spaces that can be stunning in the winter, from snowy mountain ranges to frozen lakes and rivers. However, it’s important to find a location that is not only beautiful, but also easy to access and navigate in the snow. It can also be helpful to choose a location that has some cover from the wind, as the cold can make it difficult to stay warm during a longer photo session.

Dress for the Weather

Next, it’s important to dress appropriately for the weather. Winter engagement photos can be a lot of fun, but they can also be very cold. It’s important to dress in warm layers and to have a coat or jacket that is both warm and camera-friendly. I recommend wearing something that is both stylish and practical, as this will help you to feel comfortable and confident during the photo session.

Think About the Composition

When it comes to posing and composition, there are a few things that can make your winter engagement photos even more special. For example, I love to use the natural elements of the winter landscape, such as snow-covered trees or icicles, as part of the composition of the photo. I also like to use the winter light to create a sense of warmth and intimacy in the photos, even though the weather is cold.

Find the Adventure!

Finally, I think it’s important to have a sense of fun and adventure when it comes to winter engagement photos. The winter landscape can be a bit challenging to navigate and the weather can be unpredictable, but with the right attitude, it can be an incredibly exciting and rewarding experience. I always encourage my clients to embrace the winter weather and to have fun during the photo session, as this will help to create truly memorable and meaningful photos that they will treasure for a lifetime.
